Today I’m sharing five of my all time favourite primers and the ones that I reach for on a regular basis (not all at once!)
I used to be terrible for applying makeup without a primer, and now I have no idea why. They make my makeup apply flawlessly, they help hydrate my skin and they just do everything possible to prep my skin ready for makeup. My primer collection used to be very very minimal as I used to suffer with incredibly oily skin and I only swore by one primer to help deal with that. Now that I have drier skin, I do still use that same primer in my oily areas, but for the rest of my face I reach for numerous different ones. I’m going to share my top five and tell you why I love each one!
L.A. Girl Pro Prep HD Smoothing Face Primer // Β£6.00
The L.A. Girl Smoothing Face Primer is a silicone based primer that creates the smoothest, matte base for makeup application. When my skin is dry and feeling a bit rough, it gives me a silky base to apply foundation to whilst keeping my oily areas matte. My skin always looks so flawless when I use this primer, it’s incredible for the price!
REN Perfect Canvas // Β£50.00
This primer is the newest addition to my collection and has quickly become a firm favourite. This one is a mix between a skincare product and a primer, it doesn’t really feel like I’ve applied a primer but it gives the effect of one. You’re supposed to apply this after moisturiser and before makeup. It makes my skin smoother, hydrates it and my makeup applies flawlessly. I can’t even begin to describe how well my makeup applies after I’ve used this, the clear liquid makes me think it’s done nothing – but it really does! It’s like magic in a bottle. It also contains ingredients that will help improve your skin over time so it’s a win-win.
NYX Professional Makeup Pore Filler // Β£11.00
I mentioned this little gem in my last post, but it gives me a silky base that makes my makeup application look flawless. I have quite large pores and I definitely notice a difference when I use this. I do tend to get a bit oily with it in my T-Zone area so I generally apply a matte primer first and then apply this one on top!
Stila One Step Correct // Β£24.00
If you’re someone who suffers with redness, then you definitely need this primer in your life. I was a bit sceptical about it at first but it really does work! I have quite a red complexion, especially after I’ve applied my skincare products; so to calm my skin down a bit, I love using this primer to correct my skin tone. It also brightens up my complexion which is great when I feel like my skin is looking a little dull, I also find it helps to mattify my oily areas too. It’s just a great all-rounder, not to mention the gorgeous packaging!
Too Faced Hangover Primer // Β£27.00
This is my favourite primer to use for hydrating my skin. This one always comes out when my face is in serious need of a bit of hydration, I think it’ll be used a lot during the colder months. I love how lightweight it is and how it just sinks into my skin leaving it lovely and supple ready for makeup application.
