Some Spring beauty essentials!
Now that it’s Spring, my go-to makeup products are getting lighter, sparklier and more glowy. I kind of went off highlight and glowy complexions for a while, settling for a more subtle sheen but now that the sun is coming out I’m definitely wanting to bring all the glow back! Today I’m going to share the products that I’ve been reaching for a lot lately, I don’t tend to stick to the same ones every single day but these are some of my current favourites…
We’ll start off with the necessary base for warmer weather, and that’s a primer that’s going to control the oiliness in the t-zone area. I’ve been trialling out the De-slick Primer from Urban Decay for the past couple of weeks and so far I’m really impressed with it. It’s unlike any other formula I’ve tried in a primer and it’s quite thick which means you have to be careful how you apply it. I find the best way to apply this is to use small amounts and dab it on the oily areas of your face, so for me that’s around my nose, on my forehead and on my chin. You can apply too much of this and should avoid rubbing it in like you usually would with a primer as it can backfire on you and cause your makeup to peel off, but if applied properly it works an absolute dream. I had to get used to it so I think it’s just about finding how it works for you and getting used to the application but to avoid looking like a greasy mess during the warmer months it’s absolutely perfect. I’ve suffered with dry skin all winter but over the past month I’ve had to deal with the worst oiliness so this has been a life saver, it helps control my oil for hours throughout the day with minimal powder touch up.
I think the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint has to be my favourite foundation for the warmer weather. It’s lovely and lightweight yet has amazing coverage and it’s also amazing at keeping my skin matte to avoid oiliness. I think you could apply smaller amounts of this to get an even lighter coverage too, I just prefer a heavier finish for more coverage as my skin has been very acne-prone lately. I think every blogger raves about this foundation during the summer months and I can definitely see why!
Too Faced Candlelight Glow in Warm Glow
One of my favourite highlights to use lately has been the Too Faced Candlelight Glow in warm glow which adds the prettiest sheen to the tops of my cheekbones. It’s so glowy and compliments my skin tone perfectly, they also have a cool toned version if your skin has pink undertones. I haven’t been reaching for anything else over the past week or so, I have so many highlights that I love but at the moment I’m just addicted to this one and how glowy it makes me look! If you love your highlight to really pop in summer yet still look seamless on your skin then this one is a must have.
I can never go without a pop of colour on my cheeks and I haven’t put the Benefit Gold Rush down since it arrived. It’s so subtle yet buildable and it just compliments my bronzer/contour so well. It adds a peachy pink flush of colour to my cheek bones and I’m a little bit obsessed with it if I’m honest! If you’re not into really vibrant blushes then this will be perfect for you, and it pairs amazingly with both light and dark skin tones.
By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Frozen Quartz
If you’ve read some of my recent posts then you’ll know that I’m reaching for easy one swipe eyeshadows lately and frozen quartz from By Terry is one of my all time favourites. It looks so effortless and the colour is just beautiful swiped across the lid, it’s the perfect sparkly pink for the Spring months so if you’re looking for something easy to pop on then I highly recommend this gem.
Bobbi Brown Sparkle Stick in Rose Quartz
Another shadow stick I’m loving lately is one of the new sparkle sticks from Bobbi Brown. The shade rose quartz is a pretty sparkly taupe-y shade, if you want to see it in full action then I recently did a review which you can find here. It can be applied quite sheer for a subtle sparkle or it can be layered for a stronger wash of colour. I’m a little bit obsessed with it and I need more asap!
I’m not usually a fan of glosses but I can make an exception for the few that leave me with glowy luscious lips during Spring. The Pixi Lip Icing is an absolutely gorgeous sparkly peach gloss and it compliments all of my lipsticks perfectly. As long as it’s not a windy day I will reach for this to add some extra sparkle if I’m feeling it!
Everyone’s partial to a good Mac lipstick right? I know I have way too many of them! Patisserie is one of my current go-to lipsticks as it’s the most beautiful satin pink and it’s literally the perfect Spring nude lipstick. I remember wearing this loads last year and it’s come back out this year and I’ve barely put it down over the past couple of weeks! If you love creamy nude lipsticks that are super effortless to apply then this is another everyday staple.
Fresh Sugar Dream Lip Treatment
Another lip product that I haven’t put down lately is this Fresh lip treatment. This is the first lip treatment that I own from Fresh but I’ve wanted to get my hands on one for the longest time. Thanks to Duty Free, I finally own one and I literally take it everywhere with me. It’s the perfect handbag companion if you suffer with dry lips and like to have a lip balm on you at all times, it adds the prettiest pink sheen to your lips too so if you’re wearing lipstick it just tops up your colour a bit! It’s also an essential on a no makeup day to avoid ghostly looking lips, I definitely need to pick up more of these.
