A few ideas for a winter getaway...
We all know how depressing this time of year can get, as much as I love the Autumn colours, the cooler weather and all things festive - the fact that it can basically be grey all day long can kinda get you down. And even if we're lucky enough to catch some rays, it's usually dark by 4pm. Some days it feels like we've seen no light, like this week, the weather is that dull! I feel like a little winter break can really lift your spirits, not only is it nice to get away for a few days, but it also gives you something to look forward to. I feel like plans are extremely necessary when you're someone who spends all week leaving for work in the dark and getting home in the dark. I'm fortunate enough to work from home but even for me, long days at home working and not going out to enjoy the short amount of daylight that we're having at the moment is super dull. I quite fancy a little break soon but I'm undecided whether to make plans within the next few weeks or wait for it to get a little lighter in the evenings. Whatever I decide to do, I thought I'd share a few ideas I have in mind for a short break away...
Somewhere hot...
Travelling somewhere a bit warmer isn't the first thing that springs to my mind when I think of a winter break, but I know it's the first on a lot of others. It is a popular thing to do and I can completely see why, with the lighter days, plenty of sun and no need for the 2934938 layers we have to wear in England. Some of the countries where you can find warmer temperatures include Lanzarote, Tenerife, Gran Canaria... and if you don't mind the long haul flights then Bali and Vietnam look gorgeous and hot too. There's plenty of other options but those are the first that came up when I had a browse and most likely would be amongst my top picks.
Somewhere festive...
I think the ideal winter getaway would be to end up somewhere nice and festive, with lots of pretty Christmas scenery, like Bruges, Belgium or Strasbourg, France. Bruges looks absolutely stunning and is described as a fairytale town, it would make for the perfect winter to spend Christmas there! Starbourg is also famous for its Christmas market and whilst I bet it's pretty hectic at this time of year, it would still be super dreamy to visit. And of course there's New York, one year I'm definitely going to have to go there during December as I know it will be the best ever. I'm just imaging all the beautiful insta content I could get now...
Somewhere high up...
Imagine going out into the mountains for a few days skiing?! I probably wouldn't ski myself but I love the look of the big lodges you can stay in. You always see them on films and they just look so dreamy and festive don't they? It would be the most wintery getaway and I'm already feeling like I need to make it happen one day!
Somewhere closer to home...
It can sometimes be a bit more realistic (with kids anyway) to stay closer to home when you want a short break away. Imagine cosying up in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere in front of a big roaring fire for a few days, surrounded by forestry - that's definitely my idea of the perfect winter break. Sometimes it can be nice to just go and stay somewhere different, in a different town for the weekend, to get away from normality. Norfolk Cottages have loads of really lovely options you can browse if that's what takes your fancy.
Have you got any plans to go away this winter?
