A birthday weekend in the countryside...
You may have already seen my vlog, but I celebrated my birthday this month (June 15th if you didn't know!) by booking a spontaneous little getaway out in the countryside. I wasn't really sure what to do as I'm 25 now so I don't really 'celebrate' birthdays as such but I always feel like it's an excuse to do something so why not use it? I was just going to take Reuben out for the day to begin with but then I thought, do you know what, I really feel like escaping this weekend... so we did! We headed to a gorgeous little cottage in Northamptonshire which I found through Airbnb. I thought this was the Cotswolds as in the Airbnb search bar I just put 'Cotswolds' and this came up?! But I think it's literally just outside it so maybe next time we'll head a bit further down south to explore that area more. Anyway, it was absolutely stunning where we went, we were just surrounded by nature and cute villages and it was bliss. It was about a 3 hour drive so it wasn't too close, but also not too far either.
I'll start off by talking about this absolute beaut of a birthday cake! I ordered myself a cake because, let's be honest, it's the best thing about birthdays isn't it? I always gawk over floral cakes on pinterest so I had to have one for myself and a birthday was the perfect excuse. What a stunner. Tasted amazing too!
The cottage we stayed in was just such a beauty! It looked like the cutest little place from the outside and inside it had such a modern design, and every little detail had been thought about. I spent most of my time there sat in the big comfy office chair using the largest desk. A great place to go if you're on a work/pleasure kind of weekend away. I had quite a few deadlines coming up so I took my laptop away with my to get started on some of it and it was ideal. There was so many lovely little touches like books, DVDs, magazines, pencils, sticky notes, games - plenty to keep you entertained!
The kitchen was by far my favourite room, those marble worktops though... goals. I keep managing to find myself Airbnb's with the most beautiful kitchens and I'm definitely here for it. Also have you ever seen a cooker as pretty as this one? It's an absolute beauty. The people who designed this have seriouslyyyyy good taste in decor. The bedroom upstairs was also super cosy with two clothes rails, one at either side, as well as a little tray that had been left out with a pillow mist on - such a lovely touch. The bathroom was pretty lush too, look at that massive bath, took me ages to fill it enough for Reuben's bath though considering he only has shallow ones! At least it looked good for the pics. There was a separate shower too so one night I was able to have a quick shower whilst he was in the bath which was so handy. I need to invest in a bathroom like this asap!Β
Total Reuben spam right here but he was so well behaved whilst we were away! You may remember our last trip to Edinburgh where he wasn't that well behaved but clearly, it was just a phase as he was a complete and utter angel this time. Just look at these gorgeous photos!
It was a pretty chill weekend, we spent the Saturday just travelling up, popping out for some tea and then coming back to the cottage for a quiet evening in. On the Sunday we had a lovely lie in, a pretty slow morning and then we got ready and headed out into the local town. I was starving so we went to pizza express for a big brunch which as lovely and after that we just went for a long drive around the countryside which was bliss! Reuben had an afternoon nap in the car and then we came back to the cottage and just had snacky bits for tea. We had an early-ish last night there and on the Monday morning we met up with a friend who lived not too far away and went to a nearby farm for a couple of hours. I think it was called Mini Meadows Farm. If you're in the Northamptonshire area I can highly recommend it as a place to visit with little ones, it had a huge park and you could just go round feeding all the different animals. Ru loved it!
