A birthday weekend away in the countryside…
This month I celebrated my birthday by booking a spontaneous weekend away out in the countryside. I wasn’t really sure what to do as I’m getting older, I don’t really ‘celebrate’ birthdays as such but I always feel like it’s an excuse to do something so why not use it? I was just going to take Reuben out for the day to begin with but then I thought, do you know what, I really feel like escaping this weekend… so we did! We headed to a gorgeous little cottage in Northamptonshire which I found through Airbnb. It was absolutely stunning where we went, we were just surrounded by nature and cute villages and it was bliss. It was about a 3 hour drive so it wasn’t too close, but also not too far either.
The cottage we stayed in was just such a beauty! It looked like the cutest little place from the outside and inside it had such a modern design, and every little detail had been thought about. There was so many lovely little touches like books, DVDs, magazines, pencils, sticky notes, games – plenty to keep you entertained!
The kitchen was by far my favourite room, those marble worktops though… goals. I keep managing to find myself Airbnb’s with the most beautiful kitchens and I’m definitely here for it. Also have you ever seen a cooker as pretty as this one? It’s an absolute beauty. The people who designed this have seriously good taste in decor. The bedroom upstairs was also super cosy with two clothes rails, one at either side, as well as a little tray that had been left out with a pillow mist on – such a lovely touch. The bathroom was lovely and there was a separate shower too.
It was a pretty chill weekend, we spent the Saturday just travelling up, popping out for some tea and then coming back to the cottage for a quiet evening in. On the Sunday we had a lovely lie in, a pretty slow morning and then we got ready and headed out into the local town. I was starving so we went to pizza express for a big brunch which as lovely and after that we just went for a long drive around the countryside which was bliss! Reuben had an afternoon nap in the car and then we came back to the cottage and just had snacky bits for tea. We had an early-ish last night there and on the Monday morning we met up with a friend who lived not too far away and went to a nearby farm for a couple of hours. I think it was called Mini Meadows Farm. If you’re in the Northamptonshire area I can highly recommend it as a place to visit with little ones, it had a huge park and you could just go round feeding all the different animals. Ru loved it!
Do you love cute little weekends away?
