It might seem like your kids are always full of energy, yet, while it’s true that they will naturally have more energy than you do, it’s still important that they’re able to rest well each night. It’ll be much easier for your son or daughter to be at their best, including being in a better mood and retaining their knowledge better, if they’re not tossing or turning each night. Below, we take a look at a few tips that you can incorporate into your child’s bedroom so that it’s a perfect place for sleeping.
The Right Lighting
It’s a tricky thing, getting the lighting right in your child’s room. If it’s too bright, then it’ll be difficult for their minds to switch off. Too dark, and you’ll inevitably end up in a situation where they become afraid of the darkness. Those kids have vivid imaginations! It’s best to block out any light from the exterior street lamps if that’s an issue. In the bedroom, you can add a child night light — it’ll be bright enough to be comforting, but not bright enough to prevent them from reaching the land of Nod.
Limiting the Tech
Sleep issues all across the world are on the rise, in large part because of the increasing levels of screen time that we’re all subjected to. Those smartphones, tablets, and laptops keep our minds in a state of alertness, which can make it difficult for our brains to switch off. While you might like the peace and quiet that technology brings to your house (since it keeps your child engaged), if they’re having difficulty sleeping, then you may want to look at reducing how much time they can spend using their tech. It’s recommended to limit screen time up to two hours before hitting the hay. Plus, this will give them a good opportunity to read an old school paper book – woah!
A Comfortable Night
As with people of any age, children need to be comfortable if they’re going to sleep all the night through. If your child is currently sleeping on an old bed, then look at upgrading to a newer, more comfortable model. If we’re in chaotic surroundings, then our minds will become chaotic, and it’ll be harder to sleep. Plus, this will give you a good opportunity to teach your children how to clean up after themselves.

Finally, if your child is a light sleeper or you live in a busy area that produces a lot of noise, look at investing in a white noise machine. It’ll help them to drift off easily and quickly.
