A pandemic might seem like the worst possible time to work on your wellbeing. Some people are finding this strange time more difficult than others, but that doesnβt mean you canβt take steady steps to improve your wellbeing and feel more content with where youβre at right now. Weβve all got a lot going on. Weβre encouraged to stay home, but many are still having to go out and work, putting themselves at risk. Whatever youβre doing during this pandemic, make sure youβre taking the steps to care for yourself. Caring for yourself is important no matter what, and getting into the habit now will help you later. Below, youβll find 7 ways to improve your wellbeing during a pandemic:
Start Journaling
Journaling can be a tough habit to stick to, but it doesnβt have to be tons of beautiful pages of prose to be effective. You can journal any way you like! Here are some techniques:
- Write a few sentences each day, or a couple of times a day when you feel like it. You donβt even need to write a paragraph if you want to get into the habit first.Β
- Use art to journal. Doodle. There are no rules!
- Donβt censor yourself. Just write and see what comes up.Β
- Donβt worry about spelling mistakes!Β
If you treat yourself to a nice journal, then youβre more likely to stick to the habit.Β
Stay Connected To The People You LoveΒ
The people we love are closely linked to our wellbeing. You could:
- Arrange coffee dates over Skype or Zoom.
- Have a Netflix party.
- Start a Whatsapp group.Β
- Have a virtual book club.
- Host an online quiz!Β
Get Some ExerciseΒ
You might not feel like exercising at all right now, and itβs understandable. However, even a little bit of activity can help to kickstart those happy hormones and help you to feel a little bit better. You donβt need to do crazy workouts to benefit! Here are some ideas:
- Do 10-20 minutes of yoga in the morning.
- Do a quick circuit.Β
- Pick 5 exercises you enjoy and just do 10 reps of each.
- Go for a walk.Β
Walking is one of the most effective exercises, and you donβt need equipment!Β
Sit OutsideΒ
Get some fresh air and Vitamin D by sitting outside. If you can get a little exercise outside, thatβs even better. If youβre working from home or doing schoolwork, then see if you can do it outside. Itβll do you good. Donβt stay confined to the house.Β
Develop A Ritual
Sticking to a ritual that you enjoy will help you to ground yourself in the day and give you some semblance of normality. For example, you could:
- Meditate as soon as you get out of bed.
- Make yourself a nice hot drink.
- Read for 20 minutes.Β
- Drink a pint of water.
- Take your vitamins.
- Journal.
You can arrange your morning/night routine however you like – just make sure you enjoy it.Β
Treat Yourself
As long as you donβt use spending money as a way to feel better constantly, youβre fine to treat yourself. What could make you more comfortable right now? Perhaps you could get a weight set if you want to do home workouts, or a new pillow if youβve not been sleeping well. Argos discount codes will help you to get a great deal, making it all the sweeter, too.Β
Take Time For Something You EnjoyΒ
Whether itβs reading or painting, set regular time aside to get lost in it. Hobbies are a great distraction right now, and what better time to work on your skills?Β
