Last years goals
Last year, I set some small, achievable goals such as doing a bit more saving towards a house, to declutter more often, embrace the slower lifestyle, to eat healthier and to start a few more DIY projects. Did I achieve these? I'm happy to say that mostly, I did!
My savings account has definitely increased, I think I did dip into it at one point but other than that it's been left alone and it has grown significantly over the past year. I have definitely decluttered more, especially since getting pregnant - it's a tad early for 'nesting' but I've felt the urge to constantly keep the house clear of rubbish over the past few months and I've got rid of so much clutter. I've 100% embraced the slower lifestyle, enjoying all my free time with Ru and my family, especially since Ru started school and I'm away from him all week. Eating healthy is a questionable one, I'd say I have a balance going but I'm still working on that... and as for DIY projects, I have done the odd thing to the house here and there but nothing major really. It will probably stay that way now I have a baby on the way!
I don't think I did too badly all in all. I think setting yourself smaller goals is the way forward, rather than trying to hold yourself to big ones, particularly when the big C is still about and affecting our day to day life.
A few goals for 2022...
So in terms of some fresh goals for the new year, I have set myself some more small and easily achievable ones. Keep reading to find out what they are!
Reduce the clothing purchases.
I know what a big problem fast fashion is, and this year I'd really like to stop filling my wardrobe full of things that I rarely wear and create more of a capsule wardrobe. I also have an obsession with ordering cute clothes for Ru, who is now at school for the most part of the week, so he really doesn't need them. I plan on trying to keep both of our wardrobes to a minimum and maybe invest in more expensive, longer-lasting items rather than lots of things that show wear quickly. As for the new baby, I'm not going crazy at all as I know how fast they grow and how little wear some clothing will get.
Enjoy more adventures.
Travelling has been difficult for everyone for the last couple of years, but I miss my spontaneous road trips and breaks away in the countryside with Ru. Jake, Ru & I did manage to go on a little road trip up to Scotland last year and I'd like to do something similar again this year, even if we have a baby with us this time too. I would also love to go back to Krakow or enjoy another Europe trip such as visiting Paris again, or exploring the French countryside - whether the C word will allow this I'm not sure. I would ideally like things to be a lot more normal again before I fly with two children! In general, I just really want to enjoy more fun adventures, and make some new memories with Jake, Ru and the new baby too.
Get back into photography.
This one kind of ties into the above with the adventure going, as I've mostly just been snapping my home for the past year or so and I used to really enjoy getting out and about and doing lots of photography in the outdoors. I'd love to get back into that this year, as well as taking lots of nice portrait photos of Ru and the baby. I've been dabbling back into it recently and I'd just forgot how much I enjoy it. I think it would be nice to get lots of family photos this year too, I know that's not technically me 'behind the camera' as that one will require self-timer, but we definitely haven't been taking enough lately!
Finish the garden.
I (and by I, I mean Jake) started doing up my garden last year, right at the end of summer and since then it's just been left unfinished and full of building tools and rubbish. I'm hoping that we can find the time to finish it this year and make it into a nice space, as it would be lovely to have somewhere to sit in the sunshine and to make a nice outdoor area for Ru to play in. The baby will only be born early summer time, so not so much for their sake, but in general it would be nice to have a lovely place to sit outside together as a family when the weather is warm.
So those are my little goals for this year, I would love to know if you have any similar ones? And Happy New Year!
