I’ve recently done up my little kitchen/diner, and I’m so happy with it as it’s such a massive improvement from what I moved in to! However, I constantly browse Pinterest for ideas for my future kitchen when I eventually buy my own home, that’s much bigger than this one. When I start house hunting, I’ll be looking for one of two things, a big kitchen with lovely big windows and lots of bright light, or the ability to build a big extension to create just that myself. My house is lovely and cosy but as a family we spend so much time in the kitchen, from cooking meals, to sitting and eating in it multiple times a day, to just being in it looking out into the garden. It’s a very family-orientated space that my dream kitchen would definitely involve a lovely big bright and airy space, and one day I can’t wait to create that! Here are some of the other things I’ll be looking to add to my future kitchen space…
Floor Tiles
I have vinyl in my current kitchen and would definitely opt for floor tiles if I was designing a kitchen from scratch. I think they’re perfect for a kitchen area as they’re hardwearing, easy to clean, waterproof and in general just the perfect floor for a busy cooking area. I do find they can be freezing cold however, so I would definitely have to insist on under floor heating to go with them, but floor tiles can come in so many designs these days so the opportunities are endless. You can either have the classic stone tile look, a gloss finish, or you can even buy tiles these days that look just like wood flooring which is crazy. I can’t wait to get stuck in and look at all the endless designs.
Quartz Worktops
Kitchen worktops are one of the most important features when it comes to designing a kitchen I think, you can either make or break a kitchen with them. When I moved into my current home, I had some black stone laminated ones and they just ruined the entire kitchen, made the space look so dull, and in general it just looked horrible and cheap. Marble worktops are by far my favourite, I have a laminated version from Ikea, but my dream kitchen would definitely have the real thing. Quartz worktops are so shiny and bright, and really make a kitchen stand out whilst looking super luxe, so these would definitely be on my wish list, I love all the different marble designs you get to pick from. I’d probably opt for something subtle but with character and lots of sparkle – dreamy!
Boiling Water Tap
I’ve had a boiling water tap in my kitchen for over 6 months now, and I honestly couldn’t be without it. I use it everyday for so many different purposes and it makes life so much easier in lots of different ways. I love just being able to quickly make a cup of tea, or fill up my hot water bottle, or a pan when I’m cooking. I love being able to disinfect utensils and bowls when I’ve been cooking with raw chicken, and melt grime off of stubborn dishes. It’s just the best thing ever and I will 100% be putting one in my dream kitchen too!
Built In Appliances
I don’t have anything built in in my kitchen, it’s too small to even have a dishwasher, so built in appliances in my future kitchen is a must. I would love a separate room for laundry, but if that’s not possible I’ll definitely have a built in washer/dryer, dishwasher, bin, and anything else you can think of. I’d probably skip the built in fridge as I would love to own a Smeg fridge one day and they make a beautiful statement, so I’d opt for one of those instead, but would love a built in freezer.
Huge Sink
I love those huge American style kitchens with big sinks, and would definitely want one in my dream kitchen. Even if just for all those instagram photos filling it with flowers, they really are beautiful! I obviously do a lot of washing up with not having a dishwasher in my current kitchen, but it would be so handy to have a much bigger sink for washing up pots and pans amongst other things. They’re also great to bath little babies in too.
What would you have in your dream kitchen?
