When people think of luxury bathrooms, they tend to think of expensive features like freestanding tubs and marble tiles. But you don’t have to splash out on extravagant features to bring some luxury to your bathroom. Below are a few small ways to give your bathroom a more luxurious feel.
Faux-stone wall panels
Natural stone walls are a popular feature in luxury bathrooms. However, using real stone can be very expensive (expect to pay thousands!). A more affordable option is to use synthetic panels made to imitate stones like marble, granite, slate and concrete. You can buy concrete-effect shower panels measuring 2400 x 1000mm for about £59, which you can cut to shape and install yourself. Alternatively, you can hire a company to cut and install panels for you, although you can expect to pay a little more for this service.
A waterfall tap
Rather than spending huge amounts of money on an opulent new sink basin, why not consider simply installing a new stylish tap on your sink? There are many cool and ornate designs that you can buy for less than £60, which could help to make your sink or tub look more luxurious. Waterfall taps are a popular option that offer a waterfall effect – some models are very affordable. You may want to hire a plumber to install these taps for you.
A backlit mirror
Give your bathroom mirror a touch of glam by considering installing backlighting. Backlit mirrors can help to remove shadows from your face when looking at your reflection, while giving your bathroom a Hollywood dressing room feel. Backlit mirrors can cost anywhere between £50 and £300 depending on how large and stylish you want to go. Another luxury mirror feature that could be worth looking into is an ‘anti-fog’ device – this is a heated element that sits behind the mirror that can help to de-mist it so you can still see yourself
Ornate light fixture
An ornate overhead light fixture could be installed to help brighten up your bathroom. If you’ve currently only got a single overhead bulb, consider switching to track lighting. This involves adding multiple lights pointing in different directions all attached to one light fitting (it’s a lot cheaper to install than spot lighting). Track lighting can cost as little as £50 to buy, however you will need to likely hire an electrician to wire it all up. For a lavish light fitting in a period bathroom, you could even consider even buying a chandelier (you can buy some fantastic options for just over £100).
Scented candles
Candles can help to provide a relaxing ambient glow. You can also use candles to introduce luxurious scents into the room (which could help to get rid of bad odours or simply add to the atmosphere). What are a few great scents to opt for in a bathroom? Aromas like mint or citrus are perfect for providing a sense of freshness. Scents like ocean breeze will meanwhile help you to feel like you’re by the sea. You can also use traditional relaxing scents like lavender and vanilla. This post lists a few bathroom candle options to consider.
Diatomite bath mat
Don’t overlook your bath mat. Just like a rug in a living room, a bath mat can have a big visual impact on the room. There are lots of different styles of bath mat you can choose. One affordable and stylish option to consider could be a diatomite bath mat. Unlike many modern bath mats that are made from synthetic materials, these mats are made from diatomaceous earth, making them a more ethical option. They also absorb water really quickly!
Statement plants
Plants remind us of the great outdoors, and so can help to give a room a calmer and more natural feel. Plants are also great at purifying the air, helping to remove bad smells and even dehumidify a room. While you may want to stick to small plants in a tiny bathroom, why not go for something more grand in a larger bathroom? A large leafy snake plant or potted palm could be a great feature to add to the corner of the bathroom. Such plants thrive in humid spaces and don’t require too much sunlight, making them ideal options for bathrooms.
Luxury soaps/shampoos
When it comes to soaps and shampoos, don’t just settle for cheap supermarket options. Treat yourself to some luxury bath products. There are many companies that specialise in luxury bath products such as Lush, Dr Teal’s and Molton Brown. Explore their selections of soaps and shampoos online (some sites offer free samples which you can order). You could buy yourself a rack of some shelves to install next to your bath for displaying these soaps and shampoos on. Consider also looking into products like bath oils and bath bombs.
Wooden bath tray
A wooden bath tray is another small luxury feature to consider adding to your bathroom. This is a wooden tray that sits over the tub, which you can prop various items on as you bathe. This could include candles, soaps, bath bombs, a glass of wine or even an e-reader (just make sure it’s got a waterproof case). Wooden bath trays don’t cost much at all – some can be bought as cheap as £10, while good quality options cost no more than £40.
Custom towel bathrobes
Feel as if you’re visiting a spa every time you’ve got out of the bath or shower by buying yourself a soft towel bathrobe to change into. You can buy cotton bathrobes online for less than £25, although more luxury cotton options can cost as much £60. You could even consider treating yourself and your partner to matching custom bathrobes. These could have your name or initials embroidered on. Install some hooks on the back of your bathroom door for hanging these robes on. Custom towels are another option that you can look into, which could also be made from a luxury cotton.
