I think most of us look in our bathroom at some point and say, “This space could really look better.” Whether you are looking to remodel or just update your bathroom, you can give it a fresh, new look on any budget. It’s not a bad idea to have the bathroom professionally cleaned before starting on a refresh. Here are a few ideas to spruce up your bathroom.
Simple Touch-Up
If I’m on a tight budget, I try to make the most of what I have to refresh a room. A coat of paint goes a long way, and choosing the right paint for your bathroom usually has to do with making the most of your light sources. If your bathroom mostly relies on natural light from windows, then you want a light color paint to reflect that and carry it throughout the bathroom. This makes the space look roomier and bright.
A few wall hangings here and there can make a big difference too. I was thinking about the color scheme of my bathroom as I chose my paint and hangings, making sure everything meshes together well and fits my aesthetic. Some art prints, photos, or decorative hangings can add a lot of flavor and personality to a room. I had fun playing around with some of the shapes of the hangings to create a sense of space and movement in my own bathroom, which helps to make it feel more open and less claustrophobic.
Changing up the Storage Space
If my bathroom were tight on space, I might try to do something different with my storage there. I know a lot of people have cabinets and cupboards in their bathroom to store towels and various toiletries, but those items can be put on racks on the wall to give you more floor space. Your towel rack can be a simple bar attached to the wall or a lovely hanging basket for extra storage.
One decorative flourish I love to do with walk racks and towel rods is to give them a backdrop, like a wood panel. This visual touch can go a long way in a small space like the bathroom.
New Color Scheme
Sometimes when I am redoing a space, I like to change the colors up completely, just to see how it looks. With the bathroom, the simplest way to do that is to change the paint, but there are some other touches that you can do as well. Try changing out the color of towels you use, as well as mats and other fabrics. You could also change up the color of the various trims in the bathroom, like the windowsill, edges of the vanity, picture frames and mirror frames.
I love the way a pastel color scheme looks in a bathroom, as it makes everything appear clean and bright. A wooden color template is nice as well, with touches of brown and then blue to set that off, along with some actual wood pieces. Just be careful about where you use wood in the bathroom so that it doesn’t get wet and damaged.
