Self-care means something different to everyone. For some, it is a daily routine that sets you up for the day or helps you relax properly after it. The perfect self-care routine does involve a bit of trial and error. Here are some tips for you to think about when you are next looking at your self-care ideals.
Prioritise body care
For some, skincare is a routine that they only apply to their face. The skin on your body, however, is just as important and should not be forgotten.
There are lots of things that can irritate your skin, from shaving to dehydration. Be sure to add an all-over moisturising treatment weekly to lock in hydration and keep your skin glowing. Spa and beauty products often come with applicators and tools to help you reach every inch. This makes it even easier to remember to keep all of your skin looking its best.
Hair and scalp treatments
Hair comes in all different textures and colours, so it is helpful if you know exactly what your hair needs. Coloured hair, for example, may need more deep conditioning and care to prevent fading when compared to natural hair.
Scalp care is often neglected as people assume shampoo will do the job. Your scalp can suffer from dandruff, product build-up and oil, so it can be hard to know how to prevent that. If you don’t want to add an extra step to your hair-washing routine, then try adding an exfoliating shampoo that will simultaneously clean your hair whilst removing any build-up on your scalp.
Master the key to glowing skin
Your face can be very telling when it comes to your health. Your dry skin may be due to dehydration, the dark circles to tiredness and any dullness could be down to fatigue. If you are concerned about any skin issues, see your GP before adjusting your routines.
Once you have ruled out any medical issues you can begin adding products to boost your skin. Anything containing polyhydroxy acids will help to reduce the appearance of your pores, dark spots, wrinkles and fine lines. You can find these chemicals in a lot of face masks and moisturisers.
Quality sleep and rest
One of the most overlooked parts of self-care is quality sleep. Finding the right routine for you to drift off into peaceful sleep will benefit you in so many different ways.
You could start winding down by ditching the screens an hour before your ideal bedtime. The blue light emitted from screens actually stimulates your brain, making it harder to switch off. Instead, light a relaxing candle and read a book with a warm lamp on. Alternatively, you could listen to a podcast whilst doing something you enjoy.
Before bed, complete your skincare routine. After a couple of weeks, this routine will trigger your brain to wind down subconsciously, leading to a relaxing sleep. If you do need a bit of extra help, try out some calming pillow sprays which help to relax your whole body.
