Having a baby is amazing. That is an extreme understatement. They are also time-consuming, complicated little bundles of joy that will change your life forever. If you are considering bringing a baby into your family, here are a few things to consider.
What will your process look like?
The path to bringing a baby into this world is different for many people. Some have luck right out of the gate and are able to conceive naturally without any trouble whatsoever. Others decide to adopt. And then, there is another group that opts for the IVF process to help them conceive. Whatever your path, the most important thing is to find a good provider who will walk you through every step of the process and ensure you are comfortable and cared for. Do what works best for you and is right for your lifestyle and needs. That is what matters the most.
Find your support team.
After your little one arrives, you will need help. No one can go it alone. If you have a partner, are a party of one, or have the best village of extended family and friends around, you need someone to assist you from time to time. If you are able, talk to your partner, family, and friends before the baby comes home. Discuss your hopes and expectations for time management, your career, whether you will take a step away from work, household management, and the care of any other children or pets in your home. When you have a proactive conversation before you need to, you will be better able to set the wheels of positive communication, support, and collaboration into motion instead of waiting until you feel underwater.
You do not need all of the things.
With the overabundance of material items in this world, you are about to become overwhelmed with the plethora of options that the marketing masses say you must have in order to raise your baby the right way. Take a step back and look at the basics. This is where you need to begin. A pram, baby carrier, car seat, bottles or pump or both, clothing, nappies, and a lot of loving care will get you started. From there, decide whether you want to purchase the latest toys or carefully curate your selection. Babies do not play with much and would prefer interacting with you anyway.
Other people do not always know best.
Everyone from your bestie who just had a baby to your mom will have wonderful bits of advice to offer you. One thing to know, however, is that their experience is not your experience. Times change, and people have different values and goals. All of that is just fine, too, but when it comes to your child and your family, you are the one in charge. Keep an open mind and a firm intention when interacting with others who offer well-meaning yet unsolicited advice.
Get ready for the ride of your life. However you choose to bring a baby into your family is the right way for you. Go into the process with as much knowledge and information as possible to make the best choices both today and in the future. Congratulations!
