Does Bed Size Affect Marriage?

March 29, 2021April 30, 2025 Relationships

Many factors impact your happiness in marriage: communication, career, health, sex, children, personal problems, and, believe it or not even bed size. Small, large, king- or queen-sized mattresses can affect your marriage – indirectly, of course. And sometimes, when related to any other issues between you and your partner, the size of your bed may even become the last straw.

A bed may seem trivial in theory, but choosing one for your new home can be quite challenging. There are several factors you should take into account such as your height, budget, need for space, or closeness. Depending on your preferences, a small bed can be a blessing or a curse to your marriage. Here’s why.

Why Smaller Beds Are Better for Your Marriage

When it comes to bed size, most couples are undecided in what works for them. Some prefer to have a king-sized bed due to its space, while others enjoy having a small bed that can create a cozy and intimate atmosphere. So what is better for your marriage – big or small?

As we mentioned above, many things can affect the state of your marriage: money issues, kids, careers, etc, and the size of your bed may indirectly impact your relationship too. It’s important to understand that we aren’t claiming that people who sleep on smaller beds are always going to be happier than those who sleep on larger ones.

It’s about your personal preferences and what works best for you. If you like to sleep close to your partner, choose a smaller bed. If you love to have plenty of room, a bigger one will be more suitable for you. Still, there are some reasons why smaller beds may be better for your marriage.

Smaller mattresses can bring you closer to each other

They allow (and arguably even force) you to be intimate: When you are in bed with someone, being close to them can be very important for your attraction. Smaller beds allow closeness in a couple’s life, which can be very important for the relationship if you feel that you’re drifting apart.

They help you to relax

We all need personal space during our free time when we get tired from work. But sometimes, people just want to lie down next to their loved ones and feel comfortable. With smaller mattresses, you will wake up refreshed and ready to face the day.

They come with more opportunities

When purchasing a new house, many couples think about expanding their home by buying a bigger bed. But what if this is not what you really want? If you enjoy being close to each other, a smaller mattress will fit your needs perfectly. If you know that you will have children soon, having a bigger bed won’t be a problem – you can always move into another bedroom when necessary.

Bigger beds require more effort to keep them clean and hygienic since they take up more space and can seem overwhelming at times. Smaller beds require less maintenance and can be cleaned quickly, even by one person if needed.

Why Bigger Beds Are Better for Your Marriage

Whilst smaller beds may work better for some couples, they may not be the best for you and your partner. Regardless of which type of bed size you are after, you can find the perfect bed for you at https://sena-homefurniture.co.uk/146-beds. For now though, here are some reasons why bigger beds may be better for your marriage.

They provide an escape

Sometimes, we need some time alone just to think about our lives and think about our priorities before going back to our relationships with our partners. With bigger beds, we have a chance to escape our significant others during the night and go back to our own space in the morning, feeling refreshed and relaxed.

They allow more privacy

Privacy is very important for every couple, especially so if you also have children. A larger bed allows partners to have their own space away from each other at night, which makes it easier for parents to find privacy from the kids. It also helps partners avoid sleepless nights due to insomnia or other problems they may be facing at the moment in their lives when they need some quiet time away from each other until everything goes back to normal again. After all, there’s nothing more annoying than being woken up because your partner rolled over or kicked you by accident.

They provide more space

Having more space around us and feeling spacious can be very helpful, especially when we feel stressed and overwhelmed by different things going on in our lives. A larger bed allows us the room we need without getting too close to each other so that we don’t share body heat and energy during sleep.

Bottom Line

What we’ve seen above is that although the size of your bed perhaps doesn’t directly affect your marriage, it does have some indirect repercussions that may impact your relationship. Smaller beds encourage more intimacy and sense of closeness whereas larger beds provide privacy and sense of personal space. When selecting a new bed, you should consider which of these you and your partner need.
