I don’t know about you, but I think that Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It’s such a quaint little place full of buildings with lots of bright colours, a gorgeous canal and it has so much character. Not to mention it’s also full of history too, there are some of the best museums in Amsterdam. Cycling is all the rage in Amsterdam so you’ll find bicycles absolutely everywhere but they make for some beautiful photos the way that they are jacked up along all of the streets and bridges. They’re a fantastic way to get around the city if your feet get tired and mean you can stop whenever and wherever you like. If you go for a day trip, or a weekend, you won’t be short of things to do and see – here’s some things to try.
Visit Some Famous Coffee Shops
If you’re looking for a coffee shop Amsterdam isn’t short of them, there are so many cute ones dotted all over, which is ideal for a pit stop as you’re walking around. Relax is one of the most popular offering the best hash in Amsterdam if that’s a must try whilst you’re in the city. It’s one of the most popular reasons that people like to visit for the ultimate experience and you won’t be let down here. Barney’s Coffee Shop is a popular one with tourists too as it’s located in a 500 year old building which is great to snap.
Try Out Cycling Around The City
Some of the best hidden gems of Amsterdam can be found by cycle routes, so if you’re there, definitely hire a bike and give cycling a try. There’s loads of flat cycle routes so you will never get bored, it’s something you could spend an entire day doing. Two to try are the routes along the Amstel River and the Waterland, if you love waterscapes and pretty scenery then these will be thoroughly enjoyable.
Visit The Anne Frank Museum
One of the reasons that I’m so drawn to Amsterdam myself is because of the Anne Frank Museum. I find the world wars so fascinating (and devastating) and it’s a great place to reflect on the horrific things that happened during our history. It’s important not to forget that things like this took place and the annexe where Anne Frank and her family hid for two years has been preserved so you can see what it was really like to live there.
Take In The Tulips
A symbol of Dutch culture is tulips so it would be silly to miss out on the beautiful Tulip fields, after all, they are glorious! The tulip fields are world-famous and not only are they a view not to be missed, but they make a gorgeous capture for your travel diary. A family photo in the tulip fields would give you a picture to frame forever. You can get there in around twenty minutes from the city so it’s not far to go at all.
Take A Trip To The Zoo
Based along the canal in Oost you can find a lovely little zoo called Artis Zoo, that’s full of an array of wild animals including big cats, elephants and giraffes to name a few. If you’re visiting Amsterdam with your family then this would make a great place to stop during a day out in the city, they also do special tours and live music on a weekend. It has an aquarium and planetarium too, so plenty to keep your children entertained if they are with you.
Do you think you’ll be visiting Amsterdam any time soon?
