For a lot of U.K. households, taking a foreign holiday can be an incredibly stressful task for an abundance of reasons. Staff shortages at airlines and airports causing flights to be cancelled or maybe a dauntingly long queue at airport check-in/ security is enough to not feel encouraged to leave home. Having this in mind, Start-Rite have decided to create a campaign which allows families looking to travel to interact with a map of the UK and select destinations displaying data such as travelling time, cost of transport, tickets for attractions etc. in comparison to foreign destinations.
In such uncertain financial times, this campaign may be very helpful for a lot of families throughout the U.K. who enjoy going on an annual holiday but due to the current living crisis, are finding it quite difficult to make ends meet and will have to sacrifice a foreign holiday. Start-Rite’s “Near OR Far: U.K. Staycation locations that are more affordable than abroad” provides an excellent alternative (and cheaper!!) to popular foreign destinations.
Having navigated through the interactive infographic provided by Start-Rite, there are many great examples and comparisons between foreign and U.K. based destinations, including the colour-coding of locations which correlate to the type of holiday that the individual/ the family are most interested in. A very interesting comparison was made between Brighton and Alicante, with Brighton taking half the travelling time as that of Alicante and 1/20th of the cost of transport with no stop overs. Brighton also offers their famous pier which is free to walk on. Should you want to check out some alternatives, please feel free to look at this map:
It is very important for families to set time aside during the year to relax, bond, build memories and gain invaluable experiences together. For many UK citizens this will be out of reach due to the current financial climate. Start-Rite’s campaign allows for many residents to substitute a destination they may have always wanted to visit for a cheaper alternative, holding very similar attractions, within the U.K. Through this, many more families will not have to sacrifice their annual trip with their families and it will allow for the continuation of making many more memories together.
As a parent, we always want to ensure that our children grow up as positively as possible, through experiences, education, character building and relationship building. As I have mentioned before, due to the current economic stress that a lot of households are under they will not be able to give their kids the growing up experience of travelling and seeing the world as they would have wished. With this new campaign, it allows for a much more feasible and equally desirable option for parents to allow their children the fun that they should be allowed to have during their holidays.
