A room that often goes overlooked is the spare bedroom, or the βguest bedroomβ as some people call it. If youβve got one, thereβs a good chance you use it to store items that donβt really have a place elsewhere in your home. Or, you might even keep your unsorted laundry in there until you get a chance to get to it.
However, when the time comes for guests to actually stay, itβs understandable that you want to make a good impression. But where can you start? Letβs take a look at some ways to impress your guests with your spare bedroom.
Declutter and organise
While your guests will absolutely expect you to have personal belongings in your own home, the last thing youβd want is to leave your clothes airer with everyoneβs laundry on it. If there is laundry or other items that shouldnβt be in there, take the time to declutter and organise the room so that itβs welcoming to your guests. This might mean making some space for them to lay out their skincare or a drawer to unpack some of their clothes. Making the effort to do this for your guests will go a long way, even if they donβt use the space.
Upgrade the soft furnishings
The soft furnishings in your guest bedroom will make a world of difference to their experience staying with you. While theyβre going to be grateful for a bed to sleep in, you probably know all too well how uncomfortable it can be to sleep in a bed that isnβt your own. If you havenβt really touched your spare bedroom in a while, consider getting made to measure curtains with a new matching bedspread and rug. It will help tie everything together, and the quality new items will show your guests youβve put some effort in, which should hopefully make them feel a little more comfortable.
Provide them with amenities
Even if your guests are only staying one night, theyβll probably want to freshen up with a shower or a bath, and theyβll need amenities to do so. Prepare a basket for them with things like:
- A toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Skincare
- Soaps
- Deodorant
- Shower gels
- Shampoo and conditioner
While they may bring their own, the option is there if they did happen to forget anything. And, whatever they donβt use, you can put them away after their stay and keep it ready for any guests in the future.
Think about smells
Finally, as a guest in a loved oneβs house, one of the strangest sensations can be getting used to unfamiliar smells. This might be the detergent you use, or it might just be where you live (manure if you live near a farm, for example). So why not give them some options to create some more comfortable smells? You could add candles to the room to allow them to relax when they settle into their bedroom, and you could even give them the option of a reed diffuser or a plugin air freshener. Again, theyβll appreciate the effort youβve put in to helping them feel as comfortable as possible while staying at your home.
