The Best Classroom Art And Craft Activities.

July 1, 2019April 6, 2025 Education

The best classroom art and craft activities. From melted ice creams using shaving foam to brightly coloured bubble art, there are no end of art and craft activities you can facilitate with the right art and craft activities for schools. Read on to find out our top picks, along with what the essential art and craft supplies are.

Melted Ice Creams

Everyone loves a good ice cream, especially young children! Of course, it can also get rather messy but it provides excellent inspiration for this art and craft activity. Using some cheap shaving foam, non-toxic glue and paint, you can make your own melted ice cream that looks good enough to eat! (Of course, it shouldn’t be eaten, so make sure you only use this activity with children old enough to be trusted with it).

Using some brown paper and markers, cut out the ice cream cones for your class to use. Then, let them mix up their own colourful ice cream scoops to finish off their melted creation.

Blow Paint Birds

Your entire class will love his messy art activity. The final effect is stunning, but blow paint birds are actually an incredibly straightforward activity. Students start by first painting the body of a bird – peacocks work particularly well for this – then the real fun can begin. To create the brightly coloured plumage for the feathers, all you need are some watercolours and straws. Then, all the students have to do is place drops of different watercolours on to the paper and use a straw to blow them around to create, vibrant multi-coloured feathers.

Bubble Painting

A classic art and craft activity, bubble painting is fun and easy, making it a favourite with young children. While there are a number of different ways to create bubble art, you’ll likely find that the classic method will be the easiest for the entire class. To create the colourful bubbles, mix some non-toxic paint with some water and a dash of washing up liquid. Students can then stir up the mixture and blow bubbles into it using a straw – just be careful that none of the students try to drink the mixture rather than blowing into it!

Once the class have all created their colourful bubbles, all they have to do is gently place some paper over them to form a colourful and fun print.

Art and Craft Essentials

When it comes to art and craft activities, it’s important that you have the right supplies on hand in order to support your class in their learning. As you will have learned from this post, paint is one of those essentials as it can be used in all manner of art and craft activities.

Another essential supply is craft paper. This incredibly versatile resources can be used for everything from decoupage to origami, making it a classroom staple.

Then, there are the practical art and craft essentials you need to consider, in order to protect both your classroom and your students from the mess that often accompanies these lessons. These include table covers and aprons. As any primary school teacher will no doubt know, the more fun an art and craft activity is, the messier your classroom and your students are likely to get by the end of the lesson.
