Discover my favourite editing apps
I’ve been using Photoshop for years and years, and it’s always been my go-to for photo editing, however, lately I have been much more partial to using editing apps instead. I think because most of the time I’m just editing for Instagram and I find this way faster and the lightroom app has pretty much all of the same settings that I use on photoshop in camera raw. I’m also loving adding lots of effects and textures to my photos lately so even if I edit a photo on my laptop, I’m still taking it through a couple of editing apps on my phone before it hits my instagram. Anyway, I thought you guys might be interested to see what apps I edit with and which are my favourites. So let’s go shall we?!

Lightroom
As mentioned, I love the lightroom app as it’s like a more basic version of photoshop and has all the same settings that I use on my laptop. Presets are really popular these days so you can buy lightroom mobile presets to make editing super easy or you can create your own. I have purchased a couple in the past but I’ve never liked how they make my photos look so I just stick to making my own. I’m pretty good at messing with settings to get the right warmth and colouring that I want to go for, so I just find it easier. I find the more you play around, the easier it is to learn. The best thing about the settings in the lightroom app are the ones that most other apps don’t have, like altering the brightness, saturation and tone of individual colours in a photo. I usually desaturate yellows for example as I don’t like mine to have a yellow tinge, I prefer to eradicate that so my whites look more white etc. It’s nice to be able to change the tones too, as sometimes a camera can pick up some ugly forms of green and orange and it’s easy to fix that with these settings!
VSCO
In all honesty, I do love VSCO but these days I only use it for one filter and I always only have it on 50% or less, it’s A4 and I just like the vintage inspired tone it gives to photos and I haven’t been able to replicate it in lightroom so I’ll usually do my main edit in lightroom and then add a bit of this on top. There’s loads of other lovely filters too, but this is the only one I use.
ColorStory
ColorStory is an app I only got recently, primarily for Kate La Vie’s effects! I think I downloaded it ages ago and just couldn’t get on board with it but since downloading it I haven’t stopped using it. Maybe it’s got a lot better since then I’m not sure, but I now have the yearly subscription because I love it that much. I love all the different textures available, I’m not really a fan of the filters on there but it’s worth it for the different effects and textures. There’s some good editing settings too.

RetroCam
I love RetroCam for the free textures it offers, you can pay to have access to a lot more but I think it has a pretty good amount of them free and I love adding them to my photos as a finishing touch before uploading them to insta. ColorStory has some nice textures too but RetroCam offers a lot more for that really retro look that I love.
Photoshop Fix
I love the Photoshop Fix app because it has some of the settings that I use a lot in photoshop on my laptop. The main ones I use are the clone tool and the darken/lighten tools, these are fab for fixing any annoying areas or errors on a photo, like dark corners or reflections or fluff/hairs that you might not have noticed in a flat lay for example. I always check a photo fits in with my grid before uploading so sometimes if the corners are too dark and it doesn’t tie in well, I use the lighten tool to brighten them up a bit and bobs your uncle. Such a good app to have if you’re a perfectionist!
So those are the editing apps I use on my phone to edit with, let me know if you use & love any of these or what your favourites are 🙂
