My wardrobe as a thirty year old…
As I’ve got older, I have prioritised comfort more and more when it comes to my wardrobe, over what’s generally considered fashionable. I find that society and brands have grown very aware that comfort is key over the years, and it seems that things like skinny jeans are no longer the in thing. I remember in my early twenties, squeezing into Topshop skinny jeans, and even trying to desperately get back into them after having my second baby. Which now, as a thirty year old with a second child, seems absolutely insane!
The Winter Wardrobe
As a mum who does a daily school run as well as runs around after a toddler 24/7, I pretty much live in a comfy pair of leggings during the week. I mix it up and pair them with oversized tees and big cosy jumpers depending on the temperature outside. If I fancy something with a bit more effort put into it, I love a pair of mom jeans with a pretty top or jumper/cardy tucked in. I have three pair of mom jeans in black, light wash and a mid-blue and I love all three pairs, I just don’t reach for them as a go-to outfit as nothing beats high waist stretchy leggings for the ultimate comfort!
My favourite jumpers are usually striped, or a nice cream knit, and I do tend to prefer something oversized and loose as opposed to something tighter fitting. I find these much comfier, although not always the more flattering option. I’m also extremely partial to a lovely knitted cardigan and definitely own far too many. I don’t reach for these as often and I’m not sure why, as I can never resist buying a cute one when I see it. My goal for 2024 is to wear my cardigans more as soon as we hit Autumn!
The Summer Wardrobe
When it’s warmer, like at the moment, I love a comfy pair of linen shorts with an elasticated waist that don’t cling to my thighs, paired with a tee or sleeveless top. I love a pretty summer dress too, but I tend to opt for shorter styles due to my 5’2 frame and then I always have to wear some cycling/gym shorts underneath to protect my dignity! I’ll never pass an opportunity to wear a nice dress, but loose shorts are definitely my preferred go-to outfit when it’s too hot to even wear clothes.
At the moment I’m much preferring a sleeveless top and have recently bought some nice strappy tops and vests that tend to look good with anything. They’re very much ‘casual vibes’ but perfect for day-to-day wear for my walks across the park doing the school run. I’m packing for Italy this week and I’ve treated myself to a new playsuit which I can’t wait to wear, I do like a playsuit as they normally look very much like a dress, but the shorts are a lifesaver.
The All-Year-Rounders
A lot of things are suitable for the all-year-round section of my wardrobe, and that includes things like my sports bras and wireless bras. I can’t tell you how much my life changed when I discovered the wireless bra – I’ve never gone back. Wired bras can absolutely get in the bin (and have as I’ve pretty much thrown all of mine away!) Belle Lingerie non wired bras are great and have loads of pretty options that are both comfy and supportive. I love Monki and H&M as brands for comfy underwear too, there’s lots of lovely options.
I also tend to keep sweatshirts and my cardigans in my summer wardrobe as they’re perfect to throw on if it’s raining during a heatwave, or for on a cool summer evening. I’ll be taking a nice cardy to Italy with me this week just incase there’s an evening chill when we go out for dinner.
What’s your wardrobe like? Are you more for style, or for comfort?
