Like most homeowners, you spent a lot of time designing the perfect garden living space. Itβs an extension of your home; a patio or decking that leads on from your kitchen, conservatory or dining area. You made it the ideal place to relax and enjoy the outdoor weather by adding nice outdoor furniture, some umbrellas and maybe a few heated lamps.
Itβs simply stunning and was well worth the investment – but this only tackles one part of the garden. Thereβs plenty of unused space at the bottom of the garden just waiting to be utilised. What can you do to make the most out of it? Here are three creative ideas that may suit your home for different reasons:
Create a small allotment
Being able to grow your own fruit and veg is fantastic. It saves a lot of money on your weekly shop and you get better quality produce for free! This is an excellent idea if the end of your garden gets ample sunlight and you donβt have a huge amount of space. It also helps you add more colour to the area, improving the aesthetic.
Create a little soil patch and then think about what you can grow. Staple foods like tomatoes or potatoes are wonderful choices; you use them all the time, so you can never have too many. Thereβs a great article by Gardnerβs World that introduces you to low-maintenance veg and fruit to grow in a garden. Itβs worth a read if this is the idea you go with.
Add a garden shed
Putting a shed in your garden makes loads of sense when you have plenty of things to store. Some of the items in mind could be gardening equipment, stuff to wash your car, general cleaning supplies and maybe even the recycling bins before they get left out each week.
Youβll find lots of sheds in all sizes and designs to fit the space at the bottom of your garden. If you have a big enough area, this shed could become a summer house or a small home office. Similarly, you may have enough space for a small allotment to grow things and a little shed to store all of your planting equipment!
Build a kidβs play area
Gardens are wonderful places to let your kids run free without worrying about their safety. Theyβre in an enclosed area and the bottom part of your garden could be the dream place to build a little play area.
The size of this play area depends on how much space you have free. If itβs big enough, you could build a little park with a slide, a swing and maybe one of those cute toy outdoor houses. Or, it may only be small enough for a swing or one piece of outdoor play equipment. You could even simplify it and put a goal there if your kids enjoy football! However you go about it, youβve made a place for your kids to have fun.
Focusing on the bottom end of your garden makes the entire space feel more livable. You get the outdoor living area by the house and the more practical part of the garden further on. Regardless of your gardenβs size, there will always be something you can do down the far end of it.
