A little garden moodboard…
I’ve put together a little garden moodboard to show you our intentions for the garden makeover we’re in the progress of. Last year we got to work on our garden renovation, but we ended up starting too late in the year and the rain soon put a halt to any progress. It’s barely stopped raining since so project garden has been well and truly on hold. My partner Jake is on garden reno duty and is doing it all himself, we even hired some diggers to get the grass dug out for the patio. We have made a good start to the renovation, all of the area where the patio tiles will be going has been dug out, the pergola has been built, and the new patio tiles and fencing is sat on our driveway ready to be installed.
We have a couple of renovation projects that are in progress at the moment, but our garden is up there as a priority next to our utility room that’s close to being finished. I really can’t wait for some warm Spring sunshine so that we can make more progress in the garden and start planting some pretty flowers! So, now you’ve seen the garden moodboard, here’s more insight to our plans…
Patio plans
The plan is to have a checkered tiled patio area under our pergola in the top corner of the garden, which will be raised with some steps leading down to a plain white patio for the rest of the garden. We’ve not dug out some of the grass on the left side which is where the children’s playhouse sits, so we still have a nice little area that’s grass covered. I don’t love having loads of grass in a garden as it just makes it unusable. We’ve rarely used the garden as there’s nowhere to put garden furniture or an outdoor dining table, so I can’t wait for our big patio to be installed so we can really make the most of our outdoor space. I plan on putting some cosy seating on the patio under the pergola, with a coffee table, maybe my egg chair… and then I’m hoping there’s also space on the lower patio for an outdoor dining table and seating. I would love to host our family for some summer BBQs this year if it’s all finished!
Installing a new fence
Our current fence is just the basic one that came with our new build and it’s really tatty and weathered, so installing a gorgeous new fence was up there with one of the first things we wanted to do. We’ve got these gorgeous slatted screening panels from Richard Burbidge that are currently piled on our driveway soon to be installed, and I can’t wait to see them up! I just know these are going to transform our garden away from the dull lifeless fence that’s already there, and I love how warm and modern they are. Lots of progress documentation coming soon over on my socials.
Colourful fabrics
My intention with our garden furniture is to add lots of colourful, patterned fabrics. If you follow me on TikTok or Instagram, then you’ll know I’m all about a home full of colour, but I particularly think that bright colourful tones and patterns work beautifully in a garden over the summer months. I want the space to look warm, welcoming and really bring it to life. I’m thinking striped cushions like in the garden moodboard, as I’m obsessed with a colourful stripe, but I’ll see what deals I can get hold of when it comes to buying our new garden furniture.
Making it cosy
I really lust for those warm summer nights spent in the garden with a fire going, so my hope is to make it a really cosy lovely space to be. I will be adding some string lights through the pergola, and maybe some paper lanterns too. I do have some outdoor metal lanterns but I’m not sure how the winter has treated them, so I may need to invest in some more so that I can dot these about too. I would also love an outdoor BBQ built into brick like a mini outdoor garden, but I don’t know if we have the space for this so we will see. I plan on investing in an ooni for stonebaked pizza all summer long so it would be great if we could squeeze a mini outdoor kitchen in. I can’t wait to see this garden moodboard come together!
