Giving my boys bedroom a little refresh…
Just over a year ago, we renovated our little boys bedroom and gave it a complete makeover, but now it’s time to have a little bedroom refresh. My youngest is almost four and a lot more sensible, so we feel that both boys are now ready for a set of bunkbeds – whereas before I didn’t want to risk having the ladder in the room with him so little and the temptation there to climb! There’s such a large difference in maturity from age three to four, however he will obviously be having the bottom bunk.
With their room being a space super fun and full of colour, I knew I wanted to dive into that colourful theme and add some bright coloured bunk beds. I couldn’t find any nice enough online however, so I settled for these gorgeous bunk beds from Mon Lit Cabane, with the aim to paint them in a lovely colour of our choice. I settled on a deep red, which is Incarnadine from Farrow & Ball which I think compliments the colour of their bedroom really well.
I also think we’ll paint their trofast storage units in this colour as well, to tie everything in together. I do love the light wood but I just think we need to really lean into the colours in this room to have it looking really great.
When originally renovating this room, I was really indecisive about wallpapering above the panelling, but we decided that we could always add it at a later date if we wished to. After living with the top of the walls white for the last year, I’ve now decided that some fun wallpaper would be a great addition to the space and make it feel even more fun than it already is. We’ve chosen the Retro Wavy Striped Wallpaper from Hovia in Jive Yellow which was my eldests favourite between a few samples that I ordered. It was a toss up between this one and the Harlequin, but I think he made a great choice.
With the extra space this room will have, it will be much better for playing space and we’ll be able to put up their circus tent that we never have enough room for. I also plan on adding a little cosy corner with some bookshelves and their beanbags where they can chill out after school and on weekends.
I’m super excited about this refresh as I didn’t think this room could get any better, but it definitely can!
