styling my chest of drawers...
As many of you will know, I moved into a new home a couple of months ago and the majority of my time has been spent trying to turn my house into a home. I'm slowlyyy getting there with it all now, but of course it's probably going to be in a work in progress for a few years to come because isn't home styling and homeware shopping just the best?! The most recent addition is to my bedroom and it's the most beautiful chest of drawers from Wayfair. My house is lacking in storage space so not only is this a welcomed addition for my ever-growing collection of jumpers and eyeshadow palettes, but it's a new spot to decorate yay! I had a chest of drawers to style whilst I lived with my parents and it was one of my favourite areas to look at and take photos of, so I'm loving having my own set in the new place.
This is the Wembley 5 Drawer Chest from Wayfair in classic white (but also comes in grey!) and it's gorgeous. It's perfect for filling the bottom three wider drawers with jumpers and pyjamas and the top two with makeup and skincare bits. Can you ever have enough storage really? The best bit is that it arrived preassembled so no flat pack building with this one. You just need a helping hand in getting it up the stairs, then remove all of the packaging and hey presto. Perfect if you're rubbish at DIY like me! So, let's get into how to style one of these beauties...
artwork...
A unit to style up is always the perfect little spot for a print or two isn't it? I do love having things leaning against walls rather than hanging absolutely everything up on the wall itself! It gets a bit boring, especially if you have lots of shelving and wall mirrors like I do. I also thing it's a great little trick if, like mine, the skirting board stops you from having the drawers backed up fully against the wall therefore leaving a little gap. Pop some prints up and boom, you can't even see it. It works nicely to add a bit of character and colour to an area of a room too, because of course the designs with prints are endless.
something statement...
I think when you're styling the surface of something like a desk, shelf, or chest of drawers, it helps to have an almost centre piece. Something statement that you want on show and can work around. It gives you a helping hand in deciding on the colour scheme and what textures you want to work with. For me, I've chosen this little rattan tray that I picked up in JYSK. It was a bargain at around £10 and I've filled it with all of my favourite perfumes. I find fragrances such a hard thing to store so I tend to pop them all in a tray on a surface somewhere and this spot works perfectly. I am obsessed with the rattan tray too and I love the warmth it adds to a set of plain white drawers. Combined with the light wood frames of the prints, it gave me the perfect colour scheme as I knew that I wanted to work with warm tones for this space.
something personal...
It's always nice to inject something personal when you're styling a space, particularly a chest of drawers which is most likely to be placed in the bedroom. For my personal addition, I went with my gorgeous bee dish from Sass & Belle and placed a few of my favourite jewellery pieces on it. I opted for things I tend to wear most often because not only do they look pretty, but they're now so easy to grab when I'm getting ready on a morning!
a homely touch...
Homely touches for me are things like a candle or two. In Autumn particularly, I will often get out the shower and go and light a few candles, so it's nice to have one placed on the chest of drawers that I can light on an evening or a morning. Other homely touches could be things like a nice vase or maybe a couple of your favourite books.
work with height...
I think things get boring and look a bit bland if you don't work well with height when styling shelves and surfaces. Plants are perfect for adding some height as well as looking cute. I recently picked up a new plant from the garden centre and it needed a home, and I think it adds such a lovely touch to this space to finish it off. Greenery is always a good option for anything in the home I think, there's plenty of fake but realistic greenery about these days too if you can't commit to looking after a real plant! I picked a plant pot that has brass tones running through it so that it blends in nicely with the other warm tones. So pretty.
Do you own a chest of drawers and have any styling tips?
Disclaimer: the chest of drawers were sent to me as part of a collaboration with Wayfair.
