What is my skin type?
The first thing to figure out before investing in new skincare is, what your personal skin type actually is. This is so important because you want to be making sure you're buying the right products for your skin. Not only do you not want to waste money, but looking after your skin is so important, so is making sure you're meeting your skin's needs.
If you need some help figuring out your own skin type, then this section here is for you. There are five primary skin types, and we're going to delve into them a bit more below:
What is Dry Skin?
The reasons for dry skin are when your skin is lacking in enough moisture to maintain its normal texture and elasticity. It may appear dull, and feel quite rough with some tightness. It can also be itchy and appear flaky or cracked.
What is Oily Skin?
The reasons for oily skin are when there is an overproduction of sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin's sebaceous glands. The excess oil can lead to a shiny complexion, enlarged pores and your skin can be prone to blemishes and blackheads. Oily skin often has a greasy texture and is susceptible to breakouts, particularly in the T-Zone area which is the areas on your forehead, nose and chin.
What is Sensitive Skin?
Sensitive skin is where your skin can be prone to redness, itching, dryness, and burning or stinging sensations when exposed to irritants, allergens and other factors. What causes sensitive skin can be things like weather conditions, or underlying skin conditions that can also exacerbate sensitivity.
What is Combination Skin?
Combination skin is where your skin has both oily and dry areas. Typically, this is an oily T-Zone (forehead, nose and chin) and dry or normal in the other areas. Combination skin has variable needs, as different parts of the skin require a difference in skincare approaches.
What is Normal Skin?
Normal skin is often considered the ideal skin type. It's skin that's well-balanced, has a good moisture and oiliness level, is smooth in texture and tone, and has small pores and minimal blemishes.

Trialling the No7 Derm Solutions Skincare Range
When I was younger, I had to have a skincare routine for combination skin and found it so difficult when it came to what beauty products to use, it really was a constant battle of trying to combat both at the same time. Now that I'm older, my skin has gone to the drier side. I do still get some oiliness, but mostly my skin leans to the drier side so I put my skin type down to being dry, as my oil levels are not excessive like they were when I was younger. I opt for hydrating products suited for dry skin, and they seem to work perfectly for my skin type.
I've been trialling out a few products from the No7 Derm Solutions Skincare Range and I'm sharing my thoughts and how they've worked for me below.
No7 Derm Solutions Comforting Cream Cleanser For Dry & Sensitive Skin
The No7 Derm Solutions Comforting Cream Cleanser for Dry & Sensitive Skin is an incredibly gentle cleanser that hydrates, whilst leaving your skin cleansed and soft. Whilst I have dry skin, it can also be very sensitive to certain cleansers and I am sometimes left with tight, red skin. The No7 Derm Solutions Comforting Cream Cleanser is so gentle on my skin that it's one of the nicest facial cleansers I've ever used.
It melts into my skin with ease, gently removing any makeup and impurities, and after I've wiped it away with my face cloth, my skin feels so soft and hydrated - rather than tight and dry. It really is the perfect cleanser for my skin, and my new favourite.
No7 Derm Solutions Clearing Treatment For Oily & Blemish-Prone Skin With Salicylic Acid
Whilst I have predominantly dry skin, I do still suffer with oiliness in my T-Zone area and I'm prone to blemishes. I normally experience blemishes at least once a month around the time of my menstrual cycle when my hormones are playing havoc with my skin, and the No7 Derm Solutions Clearing Treatment For Oily & Blemish-Prone Skin comes in as a saviour for my skin around that time. The No7 Derm Solutions Clearing Treatment helps to restore balance to blemish-prone skin to reveal healthier, calmer & clearer looking skin.
On an evening, I will apply a thin layer to my skin, avoiding the eye, brow & lip area and I'll leave this on overnight and then cleanse it off gently first thing in the morning. You can also just apply it to problem areas, but I like to apply it all over as I think the results are worth it. It's to be used overnight 2-3 times a week, so it isn't an everyday product, but it really does work wonders. It reduces the appearance of pores, oiliness and redness and once I've cleansed, my skin is left looking so radiant and bright.
No7 Derm Solutions 100-Hour Hydration Cream For Dry & Sensitive Skin
Moving on to my favourite product out of the three, the No7 Derm Solutions 100-Hour Hydration Cream For Dry & Sensitive Skin. It's a moisturiser that hydrates the skin for 100 hours, expertly formulated with Adaptopro Complex. It improves the appearance of dryness, visible redness, and uneven skin tone, whilst providing instant hydration that lasts for 100 hours. It's powered by a blend of Ceramides, Niacinamide and Adaptogens, and the formula helps to support the skin's moisture barrier leaving it comforted and soothed.
As a sufferer of dry skin, this really is a hero product in my personal skincare routine. I sometimes use this on a morning before I apply my makeup, and sometimes on an evening after I've cleansed, and it works perfectly as a makeup base in my opinion, as well as an evening moisturiser. I hate my skin feeling tight and dry, and having an awful patchy makeup application, so a good moisturiser really is key. This will also be one of my travel staples to avoid flights drying my skin out!
