Before you move, there are things to consider doing! Are you due to move to a new property that you have bought? First off, congratulations, moving to a new property is a big deal and something you should be proud of. As a buyer, it takes a lot of work to save enough money to either buy your first property or to buy another as moving has a lot of costs attached to it. From deposits and legal fees to removals and decorating expenses, it’s no small commitment.
Just before you move, there are a few things to consider and to get organised to get you ready for the move. Organising someone to move you and getting them booked in should be a priority as well as potentially getting a locksmith to change the locks for you – just in case the previous owners have given other people keys to the home.
To help get you started here are things to consider just before you move into your new property.
Book your removals company
One of the most important things to organise before moving day is your removal company. Leaving it too late could mean limited availability, particularly if you are moving during summer or over a weekend when demand is often much higher. The sooner you book can also mean you get better prices as some company will have prices for advanced bookings. When booking, make sure you look at their TrustPilot to ensure they have good reviews.
Change the locks for peace of mind
Once you move into a new property, changing the locks is always a smart idea. While previous owners may have handed over their keys, there is no real way of knowing how many copies may still exist or who could potentially still have access to the property. Try reaching out to a local locksmith and get some quotes together – they are normally very quick to come in and get them changed.
Deep clean before unpacking
When moving, it’s exciting and often you can’t wait to get in and start unboxing. But before you do this and start taking your belongings out and deciding where you furniture goes, try to give the place a deep clean or hire someone to come in. This way you know it’s completely fresh for you. Plus, if you can, this is a good time to think about painting the walls or putting some decorations up, as this can often lead to dirt and dust building up. If, like us, you love decorating, Pinterest is a great place to look for some inspiration – mirrors are great at making a room look bigger and brighter. Artwork is great for adding colour to a room in your home and a bit of your personality.
What would you recommend to someone who is moving to a new property that they have bought? Which of the above tips do you think is most important? Is there something missing that you think deserves a mention? Let us know in the comment box below. We look forward to hearing from you.
