My kitchen renovation moodboard
Time time has come, and we’re finally embarking on our kitchen renovation. I’ve wanted to upgrade our kitchen for such a long time, but it’s probably the biggest and most expensive renovation in the house and we couldn’t do that alongside other projects and our wedding, which was two months ago – can’t believe it’s been that long already!
If you’re a regular follower, you’ll probably know that we live in a new build – so as you can imagine we have a very basic new build kitchen with white gloss cabinets and a wood effect laminate. I get lots of compliments on my kitchen but I think that’s mostly down to how I decorate it, and to be honest even now they always shock me. I really do think it’s such an ugly kitchen, and it’s so bland too. We’re big fans of colour around here so the new kitchen is going to be the total opposite of what it is now.
Go big or go home
Much to everyone’s disbelief, it was actually my husband Jake who picked pink as the colour for our new kitchen. I was more opting for a nice light blue (I’m a big fan of blue lately!) but I’m sure it’s not surprising that I’m very open to a gorgeous pink kitchen. He did once tell me that he didn’t want our home to become too overloaded with pink but then he was fully on board with our colour drenched pink bedroom, and now wants a pink kitchen, so clearly he can’t resist the pink…
We’re still deciding on colours but I think it will come down to either a light or mid pink, not a colour as dark as our very bold pink bedroom, more of a blush pink or a lighter more muted shade. We’re going to pair this with brass hardware and a belfast kitchen sink and I’m so excited!
We’ll also be losing a fair bit of worktop space due to working with a kitchen on the smaller side, but we’ll be adding a mini breakfast bar to try and make up for it. There’s no negotiations happening on swapping our singular built in fridge for a large american style fridge-freezer, and our singular built in oven for a wide freestanding range cooker. A range just looks the part, and as a family of six, I really can’t cope with our tiny fridge any longer!
what’s staying
My coffee corner will certainly not be going anywhere and will stay where it is, I just want to elevate it more with some nice new kitchen wall tiles, and quartz worktops. That wall will otherwise stay as it is with our open shelving, it’s the most popular corner of our kitchen, and naturally, my favourite. It was a no brainer that we would be keeping it.
adding lots of detail
I’m leaning towards a lovely detailed quartz worktop rather than something more muted, however I am in two minds whether it will look too ‘busy’ with all of my decor and colourful appliances. We are having a single floor to ceiling larder unit so I’m hoping most of our appliances will be able to fit into there, but as we don’t have room for a double larder – I’m not sure if we’ll still need to have a few out on the top. I know without a doubt that our Ninja air fryer and microwave will be going in there, I can’t be without them… but they ruin the vibe of my colourful aesthetic kitchen!
