How to style your home like Pinterest…
Are you ever sat there scrolling through Pinterest and wondering how you can bring those gorgeous aesthetics into your own home? Well I’m here to tell you that it’s easier than you think, and anyone can do it. Styling your home like your Pinterest board is simply taking your selection of home inspiration, and bringing it into your own home. You can start big or you can start small, whatever feels most comfortable to you. You could start with just one room, or you could add similar elements into multiple rooms at once – the world is your oyster. If you’d like some tips on where to get started, keep reading!
Choose a direction
It can be really overwhelming if you’re trying to do too much at once, so I’d advise choosing just one direction to begin with. This could be one individual aesthetic that you find over and over again when scrolling through your Pinterest boards. It could be warm tones, it could be lots of colour, it could be very minimal, or it could even be dark moody tones. Find that one aesthetic that seems to flow through your whole board and grab onto it.
Once you’ve figured out where you want to start style-wise, you can begin searching online and browsing your favourite shops for new pieces that tie in with that choice.
Remove items before adding new ones
Removing your items before you begin adding new ones is a crucial step, because you want to really go all in with your new aesthetic. If you start mixing the old style, which is not quite what you want, with the new style, you’re going to end up with a real mishmash of design and it’s probably not going to work well. Take away anything that doesn’t look cohesive with your Pinterest boards, even if your home starts to look empty. The best bit about decorating your home is that you can start from scratch whenever you like.
Once your home starts to feel a bit unloved, you can begin bringing in those new pieces and taking your time in deciding where their new home is going to be.
Keep the theme consistent
When you start adding new decor to your home, make sure that you keep the theme as consistent as you can. If you add colour to one room, make sure eventually it gets added to the rest of them too. If you’re focusing on something in particular, for example, lots of vintage decor, make sure you add those vintage elements to every room. My own home features a lot of quirky decor and pink tones, and you will find these in every room I renovate to keep my home looking really consistent with my style.
Sometimes I even buy two of, or two very similar pieces, because I know that it will look good in more than one space and it keeps my style running through each room.
Remember it’s not about perfection
Perfection isn’t the key goal here, a Pinterest home may seem perfect to you, but the reality is, it’s just a very well-styled and lived in home. The cosiest and prettiest homes are the ones full of all of those beautiful personal touches and carefully-selected pieces. You’re not aiming for perfect, you’re just filling your home with things that you truly love.
