The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. If you donβt get a good nightβs sleep every night, it can have a serious impact on your health and well being and having a bedroom that creates the right atmosphere is a very important part of your sleep routine. One of the things that you really need to avoid is clutter. If the bedroom is very messy, it ruins that relaxing atmosphere and makes it a lot harder for you to sleep well. Thatβs not too difficult if youβve got a big bedroom but if you have a smaller bedroom, it can be tough.
When you donβt have that much space in the bedroom and there isnβt a place for everything, itβs so easy to let it get messy. But just because youβve got a smaller bedroom, that doesnβt mean you canβt create the right atmosphere for sleeping and keep it nice and tidy. There are plenty of things that you can do to make the space go further and save yourself some space in the bedroom. These are some of the best space saving hacks for a small bedroom.
Get A Smaller Bed
This is a simple piece of advice but one that people donβt tend to follow that often. If youβve got a big bedroom then you can afford to have a big king sized bed in there. But if you put a massive bed like that in a smaller bedroom, youβll take up the entire room and youβll hardly be able to move in there. Youβve got to be realistic about the area that you have and consider going for a slightly smaller bed. Itβs important that you have enough room to move around the bed and put other pieces of furniture in as well. When it comes to placing the bed, itβs not usually a good idea to put it in the centre of the room if the room is quite small. It will only leave you a small amount of space either side, but if you push it right against the wall, youβll find that the room feels a lot more spacious. When youβre choosing a bed, youβve got an opportunity to add a little more storage if you get one that has drawers underneath. Instead of having to use a lot of clunky pieces of furniture around the room, you can give yourself a lot of storage space without taking up any more floor space because itβs all incorporated into the bed.
Corner Shelves
Storage is a big issue in a small bedroom and you donβt have as many options. If you put a big bookcase in or a large bedside table, youβre taking up a lot of that valuable floor space which you donβt really have much of at all. But you can get the storage that you need without eating up any space in the room by using corner shelves. Even a small narrow shelf will give you enough space to put essentials like your keys and phone when you go to bed. That way, you can avoid having any bedside tables and save yourself a lot of space. You can also use them for storing books and any other ornaments etc. that you might have around the room, leaving the space underneath free for other things.
Fitted Wardrobes
Aside from the bed, the wardrobe is the biggest piece of furniture that youβve got in the bedroom and if youβre not careful, it can easily take up most of the space. But you can save yourself a lot of room and make the room look more elegant by having a fitted wardrobe instead. This is especially good if you have a small alcove or something in one corner because you can utilise that space and stop the wardrobe from covering half of the floor space. A lot of people think that fitted wardrobes are far too expensive but that isnβt the case, just use this fitted wardrobe price calculator to check the prices. Youβll probably find that itβs well within your budget and itβs a far more economical use of space than a standard wardrobe. Having a split wardrobe with rails along the top and some drawers in the bottom is another very simple way to save some space. Instead of having a separate wardrobe and set of drawers, you can combine them both into one single piece of furniture that is tucked out of the way.
Use The Back Of Doors
When youβre trying to decorate a small room and youβre working with a low budget, you need to find little tricks that you can use to save yourself some money. Using the back of the doors as storage instead of buying furniture is a great way to make the best use of space and save money at the same time. You can easily put some small shelves up there, attach a small mirror, put a rail on there to hang some clothes from, or put up some hooks for keys and things. All of those little things that would normally clutter up the room and make it feel cramped can easily be stored away on the back of the door.
Use The Ceiling Space
All of the space above your head is usually just dead space that doesnβt get used. But when youβre already struggling for space, you have to make use of it properly. You can put some high shelves in where you can store things that you donβt really use very often, so theyβre out of the way. You can also get some great vertical wall hooks which are ideal for storing things like bags or coats on and theyβre not taking up any of the space that you would normally use for other things. If you can find creative ways to use the vertical space, youβll make the room feel a lot more spacious.
These are all great hacks that you can use to save space in a small bedroom and make it feel a lot bigger than it is. Β
