When we go on holiday, our first thought is always to jet off abroad somewhere lavish, luxurious, and far away from home. Itβs a natural reaction; weβre tired of being at home and we want to escape, so we donβt even consider that there could be places to venture to right here in the UK! Weβve put together a guide of some of the top UK holiday spots to show you that thereβs more to our country than rainy days filled with doom and gloom – there are some incredible places to be found if you know where to look!
City Breaks
One thing that the UK has in abundance is magnificent cities with deep, rich culture ingrained into their foundations, making them fantastic places to explore if you like discovering the history of an area. London is an obvious hotspot as it is the nationβs capital, but thereβs so much more than meets the eye of this booming and bustling location. Youβve got the alternative vibes of Soho, the rampant business district of Canary Wharf, plus the skyscrapers of central London including the iconic Gherkin building; plenty to keep you occupied with for a few days.
If you have the time, try to catch one of the spectacular shows on the West End – their performances are sure to blow you away! Alternatively, thereβs always something on at the many music venues found across the city, so if you love your live music youβll be so excited to watch artists at some of the legendary venues that have kick-started the careers of some bonafide superstars!
Aside from London, thereβs plenty of cities up north too. Check out Manchester, Liverpool, Chester or York to experience a truly progressive and welcoming vibe – these northern cities are brimming with culture and eccentricity, as well as having deep roots in science, industry, and culture. Head to some of the museums, such as Manchesterβs Museum Of Science And Industry, or take a trip to Liverpoolβs Cavern Club to experience live music in one of the countryβs most iconic venues and a regular haunt of The Beatles in their early days!
Rural areas
For many of us, the city is our life, and despite how much we love our home, it can sometimes become a little too much. Escape the busy city lifestyle by heading to a more rural area such as the Lake District! Up in the lakes, youβll find tranquillity aplenty – the shimmering waters, snow-capped peaks, and beautiful towns are untouched by the complications of modern life. Small market towns bring a rustic feel to your trip and make it all the more authentic, allowing you to get away from city life without having to venture too far afield. You often would not need to worry about the mode of transportation, as you can easily access the different areas with something as simple as a bicycle or one of those quad bikes for sale from QuadBikes R Us.
Keswick is a great spot to head to during a Lake District trip – you can visit Derwentwater, head to the distillery, check out the local shops, and indulge in the natural setting that surrounds you, whilst still having enough home comforts to keep you settled.
For accommodation, take a look at Lake District Hotels – theyβre a brilliant chain in the Lakes who look to give everyone the comfort theyβre looking for throughout their trip. Some of their locations even allow dogs, so you can take your pets away with you too! Their hotels range from budget boutiques to luxury stopovers and spas, so it doesnβt matter if itβs a simple room or something a little more thoughtful you need, theyβll have you covered.
Whether youβre after a trip to explore the urban jungle or an escape from reality amongst the hills, there are UK holidays to suit everyoneβs tastes! So, next time youβre looking for a quick getaway, give some consideration to the locations that are a little closer to home – you might even find a fantastic new spot right around the corner!
