Adding some staple pieces to my wardrobe...
Creating a capsule wardrobe is something that I'm making a conscious effort to do this year. Over the years, I've wasted so much money on clothes that I either barely wear or that never get worn. I was fed up of having a wardrobe full of clothes that I never feel like or want to wear, and I didn't want to keep throwing money at clothes that I didn't actually feel comfortable wearing. I think I find it tricky because I don't really know what my style is and my body has been through two pregnancies and so many changes.
I feel most confident and like myself when I'm wearing comfy, basic pieces, so that's what I'm focusing on investing in. During the week, I live in leggings and cosy jumpers for doing the school runs and running errands, and then on a weekend I like to wear a nice pair of mom jeans, sometimes with a pretty top. I've teamed up with Very to add some staple pieces to my wardrobe, so if you're interested in what I've chosen then keep reading...
The Barbour Rafaela Gilet
The first item on my list was a cosy coat for the school run. I am terrible for getting out of the car once we arrive at school and forgetting to put a coat on myself, as I'm usually too busy making sure the children are nice and warm. I really wanted to get myself a nice warm coat that I could put on before leaving the house without obstructing me from driving. I don't know about you but I seriously hate how most coats can be so restrictive with your arm movement, sure they're lovely and warm, but it's a nightmare when you can't wear them in the car or struggle to carry your babies!
I found the perfect Khaki Jacket that ticks all of the boxes for me, which is the Barbour Rafaela Gilet. I decided to opt for the gilet because I knew I'd not bother wearing it half the time if the sleeves restricted me too much, and I'm so glad that I did. It's sleeveless, has a huge cosy hood, it's waterproof and it keeps me so warm in this cold and drizzly weather. I like the length of it too, I'm 5'2 so quite short and it's just the right length to keep me nice and snug without looking like it's drowning me.
I always tend to opt for a khaki coat because it's a colour that goes with almost everything, especially if you wear a lot of blacks and neutrals like I do. It's the perfect piece to add to a capsule wardrobe and I couldn't love it more if I tried. I've been wearing it daily since it arrived, it's a staple piece that I know I will wear over A/W year after year.
LEVI HOODIE IN BEIGE
When the weather is all doom and gloom like it is lately, all I want to throw on in the mornings is a big cosy jumper. As soon as I saw the Levi Hoodie in Beige, I knew it was a bit of me. It's nice and neutral which means it will go with a lot of different pieces in my capsule wardrobe and it's so cosy. I know that I will get so much wear out of it as it's the best kind of jumper to throw on with leggings, making it the ultimate comfy and practical mum outfit for the school runs. It goes perfectly with the Barbour Gilet too so win-win.
CALVIN KLEIN MOM JEANS
I don't know about you, but a pair of Mom jeans is definitely an item in my wardrobe that gets so much wear all year round. The one issue that I have with jeans is that I always struggle to find a pair that have a nice tone to them, fit me nicely around my waist, are suitable for my short frame, and aren't too baggy around the ankles. That's a lot of boxes to tick isn't it? Well, I'm happy to say that the Calvin Klein Mom Jeans in Blue ticks every single one of those boxes for me and I'm in love with them. I like styling them with a simple black belt and a nice top for a casual but cute look. If you like quite a tight fit with your jeans, I'd size down - but for me, these are super comfy and easy to throw on unlike nearly every other pair of jeans that I own!
UGG ADRINA SHERPA TOTE BAG
A decent handbag is definitely an essential in a capsule wardrobe and I think that we all need a good tote bag in our lives, don't we? Well I mean, if the UGG Sherpa Tote Bag isn't fitting enough for A/W then I don't know what is?! Jake hates it because it's so fluffy, but I am obsessed. Sometimes it's nice to opt for something other than a baby change bag when running some quick errands or going shopping for the day and I love that this is a gorgeous cosy tote that can fit everything from nappies, wipes and snacks to my laptop and water bottle. How lovely does it look with a pair of mom jeans too?
