How to keep your wardrobe lasting longer...
When I was younger, I used to waste so much money on clothes that I'd never wear and end up getting rid of or giving away. As I've grown up and got older, I've realised the importance of not being wasteful, for the environment as well as my bank balance, and I try and stick to buying capsule pieces that I know will last me a really long time.
With the cost of living crisis, it's more important than ever that you save money where you can, and whilst clothing is up there with the essentials, there's lots and lots of ways that you can save money on your wardrobe. I'm going to share a few of my best tips for having a lovely wardrobe that doesn't cost you a fortune!
Buy versatile pieces
Adding versatile pieces to my wardrobe is one of my favourite things to do, it's a great way to save on wardrobe space and money. For example, I love a pair of leggings, it's my comfy mum daily go-to, and they're so versatile in how they can be dressed. I wear them in summer with tees or a cami, autumn with cardigans or long sleeved tops, and winter with a big cosy jumper or sweatshirt. They can also be dressed up or down. Jeans are another great wardrobe staple that can be worn all year round, and dressed down for the daytime and up for an evening event.
Repairing or upcycling
Sewing is a skill that I definitely need to work on, but having family that can comes in so useful. The amount of times I've had one of my favourite pieces of clothing repaired, it's saved me so much money on having to replace it. You can also upcycle clothes that you're bored of or that have faded over time with washing. Pretty much anything can be re-dyed, either back to it's original colour or maybe you fancy something new! If you really like the idea of getting creative, I've seen some amazing hand painted clothes. #clothinghacks on TikTok is full of millions of ideas too!
Make the most of sales
We all know retailers love a good sale, especially as the seasons change and they get rid of that years seasonal stock. By looking out for high quality brand sales, discount codes and clearance items, you can save a fortune. Try and buy pieces that you know will last years, but also that you'll save money on at the same time, then you're on to a real winner!
Scout secondhand shops
Secondhand and charity shops are sometimes full of surprises, and you can come across a steal with clothing. One mans trash is another mans treasure as they say! I also live on Vinted which is amazing for helping the environment with the fast fashion crisis, as well as saving a fortune on buying new. You can find clothes in the most amazing condition, and sometimes even new with tags, except for a fraction of the original price.
