Dyson Airwrap:
Is it worth the hype?
I think we've probably all heard the hype surrounding the Dyson Airwrap by now. I popped a poll up on my instagram story on whether it was worth the hype or not, and it came out at 50/50, so to some it's just one very expensive hairdryer, and to others they swear by it!
I've recently got the Dyson Airwrap Multistyler Complete in Fuschia and Nickel from Very who sell an amazing range of hairstyling tools, and I've been trying it out over the last few days! The airwrap that I have is aimed at chest-length hair or shorter, so if your hair is longer, Dyson have a different airwap aimed for long hair.
I've popped together my own personal thoughts on the Dyson Airwrap below and whether it lives up to it's name...
Dyson Airwrap: The Packaging
Dyson always seem to have it on point with their branding and packaging lately, everything is so sleek and luxurious. The Dyson Airwrap comes in a couple of different sets and colourways, dependent on whether your hair is short or long, but I love the pink. Whilst it's definitely an investment, I'm impressed with how many different tools come in the set. There really is one for every style.
Another aspect that I wasn't expecting, was that it all comes encased in a gorgeous matte box with a lid on. It's quite a set to keep tidied away and contained with all of the different parts, so I love this idea. I just have the box with everything in sat by my mirror and it's perfect.
Dyson Airwrap: First Impressions
My first impression of the Dyson Airwrap was that it's a little overwhelming. I'm used to just whipping out my hairdryer, turning it on and that's it. With this, I was thinking where do I even begin?! But after downloading the Dyson app (you'll get a QR code in your box) and having a quick read, I was good to go. I also had a little browse of how others use it via TikTok videos and I found that really helpful too!
In the kit you get:
- Dyson Airwrap™ Complete Hair Multi-Styler
- 40mm Airwrap™ Barrel
- 30mm Airwrap™ Barrel
- Firm smoothing brush
- Soft smoothing brush
- Coanda smoothing dryer
- Round volumising brush
- Filter cleaning brush
The 30 and 40mm barrels are specially engineered for short to medium hair lengths, so bear that in mind before splashing out on the wrong set for your hair!
I tried out the round volumising brush to begin with, to see if I could add some volume to my very fine hair - and I must say, I was very, very impressed with how much more volume my hair was given compared to drying it with my usual hairdryer! The firm smoothing brush and soft smoothing brush are great too, as fine hair tends to get frizzy very easily and these work a treat at drying hair without all of the frizziness and flyaways.
Dyson Airwrap: Styling
The most exciting aspect of the Dyson Airwrap to me, is the fact that you can curl your hair with it. I never, ever have my hair straight. I don't think that it suits me, and as my hair is so fine, I just feel it makes it look so flat and dull. My daily go-to hairstyle is a loose wave in my hair, or I just throw it up into a mum bun. I mostly prefer feeling a bit more put together, so you'll find me with my hair down in loose waves more often than not.
I will say that I've not had tons of practice curling my hair with the Dyson Airwrap yet, but a few people told me on Instagram that there are techniques and it can take some learning, I guess that's the same as with any new hair tool. I've only tried out the 30mm barrel so far, on damp hair, but I was very happy with the loose waves that it gave me as you can see above! Had I tried this out on completely dry hair, I think it would have given me a more profound curl.
I've since been educating myself on curling with the barrels by watching TikToks so I want to try some other techniques too. A lot of people tend to fully dry their hair first, and then curl with the barrels. Some people use various products in damp or dry hair, so there's a lot to experiment with to figure out what works best - but this will be different for everyone and their own hair types.
Dyson Airwrap: Final Thoughts
Overall, I'm really happy with the Dyson Airwrap so far and I definitely think it's a worthy replacement for my old hairdryer. I already know I'm going to get so much use out of it, and Dyson products tend to last for years too.
Have you got a Dyson Airwrap or are you thinking about getting one?
