When the winter months hit, I find I want to do nothing other than stay warm and cosy indoors, with my log burner lit. I hate becoming a total sofa slob, but I really don’t find it enjoyable being outside in the freezing cold weather, do you know what I mean?! However, I also don’t want to throw away all the hard work I’ve put into keeping my body in shape. If you feel the same as I do, then here are a few ways in how you can still keep active over the winter period.
Wrap Up For A Wintery Hike
Whilst I don’t enjoy the cold weather, I do enjoy wintery scenic views and wrapping up warm and heading into the countryside never disappoints. The Peak District in particular over the winter months is absolutely stunning, I remember being in the midst of it one year when it was snowing, and it really was so beautiful. If you’re looking for some winter gear, adidas do some great womens walking boots which are perfect for rural hikes.
Hit Your Local Gym
Jumping in the car and heading to the gym means that you’re not spending too much time in the outdoors, but can get a little fresh air on the way if you decide to walk. Most gyms don’t just offer a space to workout in, but fun classes to join in with too. Sometimes it takes something a bit social and fun to encourage you to leave the house, and a good dance or yoga class can be great motivation to get off the sofa!
Create A Home Gym
Home gyms are a fantastic idea, as they mean that you don’t need to leave the comfort of your warm home to get your exercise in for the day, if that’s what you’d prefer. Home gyms don’t always have to be overly extensive either, a small corner of your home with a decent yoga mat and some weights is good enough. I love sticking my headphones on, or my favourite show on the tv whilst I work out. I find working out from home way more comfortable, and it’s just a bonus that I don’t have to go anywhere.
Regularly Deep Clean The House
Did you know that when doing house chores, like cleaning, you actually burn so many calories?! I try and keep on top of cleaning the house in the winter months as my children bring so many bugs and colds home from school, so everything always needs disinfecting. Regularly deep cleaning the house is a great way to not only keep your house in ship shape, but it keeps you active too. I’m always out of breath going up and down stairs hoovering!
Book In Lots Of Weekend Activities
This is a good one if you have little ones, as running around after them at a soft play or similar is great for keeping active over the weekend. We recently went to an inflatable park and whilst it was for the kids, we adults had so much fun too. We were aching for days after! There’s also loads of fun things to do even if you don’t have children, like indoor mini golf, trampoline parks, indoor bungee jumping, indoor skiing, the list is endless.
