Small changes we made to our home that made it look more expensive…
When doing a renovation, the thing that everyone generally wants to do most is ideally, not much at all. Any kind of small changes that can make a big impact and make a home look more expensive are perfect, as they’re easier on your bank balance and make life easier for you too. My husband and I are always undertaking big renovation projects, but sometimes those small details are the ones that make the biggest difference. For example, we love adding coving around a room to give it that real finishing touch. It’s such a small addition in the grand scheme of things but one that makes one of the biggest impacts. Keep reading to find out some more tips!
Detailed Woodwork
You can design and have an alcove unit built in no time, but most people opt for a plain square with plain shelves, and sure it looks nice, but it could look better. My husband and I designed and added small intricate details to the woodwork when building our alcoves and it made them look so much more elegant and expensive. I get asked all of the time where the woodwork is from, and I can’t give an answer as they were made from scratch. However, you can ask any joiner to design and/or make these for you and those small added details will instantly upgrade your alcoves, making your home look more expensive.
Colour Drenching
Colour drenching is a really simple and easy way to upgrade a room and make it look more luxurious. The only thing it requires, is simply more paint – which is not a huge investment at all! I really think that colour drenching gives off those boutique hotel vibes which can instantly make your home look more expensive than it really is. I colour drenched my bedroom and it’s one I get the most questions about whenever I post videos of my home.
Framing the Windows
You’ll often find windows already framed in older homes and those that are typically more expensive, those ones that already have those authentic details added. However, in our new build we decided to frame some of our windows ourselves when renovating the rooms. This was a super affordable and easy DIY project and it really does transform a window and add a higher end finish to the space.
Putting blinds on every window
Blinds are one of those things that people can often not bother with if they already have curtains up, but we have opted for blinds on every window on our home, even the living room ones that do have curtains. I personally prefer adding blinds over curtains as I love letting in as much natural light as possible, but it’s nice to also have that bit of added privacy. We have a range of blinds throughout our home, from inexpensive faux wood blinds and roman blinds, to higher end shutters. I love all of them equally and they definitely make the house look more expensive both inside and out!
