I’m sure you all know that Reuben turned one last week, well we celebrated with a little tea party & this is how it looked…
So I wasn’t having a huge party for Reuben by any means, it was just a small tea party with my family and then a few other family members who don’t see him very often came along too. However, I really wanted to set up a cute table as it was his first birthday and I thought that it would be nice for the photos, the memories and of course blog content! It didn’t turn out exactly how I pictured it and there was a couple (a lot) of hiccups but I thought that I would post it anyway just because I really want the photos to look back on. I still think the photos turned out nice, just maybe not exactly how I planned! I went for a very pinterest type of theme, and of course that’s where I got all my inspo from too. I really didn’t want to go for a children’s character theme as I wanted something super photogenic and since Reuben wouldn’t care either way, I went for a gold theme.
The hiccups included me having a nightmare about dropping his cake the night before his birthday and then on the day, picking it up and dropping it for real… it was a super windy day and it just blew it out of my hands. Luckily it was in a box, and could have been far worse, but how much of an idiot am I?! After having a nightmare about it I should have been way more on guard!! The next thing to happen was the ‘one’ balloon banner constantly deflating, then I had a ‘happy birthday’ balloon banner, 12 balloon letters in total and one of the H’s had a hole in so the entire balloon banner was no use. And to top it all off, I then had ANOTHER balloon banner which was Reuben’s name and the ‘N’ is way bigger than the rest of the letters and also looks like a H. So yeah, if you buy balloon banners online, maybe check them and not leave it until the day of your party! 🙁
Anyway, forgetting all of the drama, it was a lovely afternoon. We had the party at my parents house and they put on the best buffet ever!! We had chocolate cake, lemon cake, lemon cheesecake, homemade quiche, homemade fudge, lots of nibbles and party food bits, sandwiches, pizza… it was the bomb. I didn’t eat as much as I would have liked because I was too busy watching Reuben and trying to stop him getting food everywhere. And the backdrop is gorgeous! He was very happy however, nibbling away on a little sandwich, bit of pizza and even a slice of cucumber!
I got a few of the party bits, including the confetti balloons, the plastic gold cutlery & the one balloon banner from party pieces which has loads of good stuff on. I then wanted some cute things for the table so I got some little milk bottles from eBay, as well as some gold striped straws to go with them. I also got my other balloon banners from eBay, although I won’t link them as I don’t recommend them… and I got some gold paper plates too! I then just added other bits and bobs like some pretty flowers in a vase and my letter board which I loooove.
Reuben was absolutely spoilt with new toys, I gave him his presents from me a few weeks ago as I couldn’t resist. I wasn’t sure if I should buy him any more but I’m kinda glad I didn’t as he got so many and he got some money too which means he’ll most likely get even more with that. One beautiful gift that he got was this mama & baby outfit duo from not on the high street. They contacted me ages ago to send me a gift for a special occasion and I told them about Reuben’s first birthday in October. I hadn’t heard anything from them in weeks until it turned Ru’s birthday and this package arrived in the post! I think it’s so lovely that they sent it to us to arrive on the date of his first birthday and I am in love with the clothes. I’ve already been wearing the sweater loads, it’s so comfy & soft for this time of year! I sort of wish the onesie was a t-shirt as then Ru could have worn his more too, but with a toddler a onesie can only really be worn at bedtime! Anyway hopefully I will get some pictures of us both wearing them soon as it would be the cutest thing evvver.
I hope you enjoyed this post, I still can’t believe I have a one year old!
